Samuel Akinade Badekale was born on 15 May 2003 in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria, to Pastor Femi Badekale and Assistant Pastor (Mrs.) Nike Badekale of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Lagos State. His early life mirrored the experiences of many children from low-income households in Lagos. Growing up in a modest home, he attended several affordable private schools as his parents worked tirelessly to provide him with quality education despite financial constraints.

Early Life and Education

Growing up in Mushin shaped his outlook on life, instilling in him values of discipline, perseverance, and determination. He often recounted how the environment taught him to remain focused on his studies and to look beyond present limitations. In 2022, he became a Millennium Fellow, an experience that broadened his horizons and strengthened his resolve to merge academic knowledge with social impact. On August 15, 2025, His dedication to science and innovation was further recognized globally when he was awarded the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Scholarship in Bio-membranes, making him the only Nigerian and West African recipient of that year’s cohort. This program is set to take him across leading European universities, including Université Côte d’Azur (France), the University of Genoa (Italy), and the University of Osnabrück (Germany), further advancing his research and academic career.

Sharing the milestone on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, August 15, 2025, Badekale expressed gratitude and excitement:
“2025 has been amazing in every way! Pleased to announce the next step in my journey: selected as the only Nigerian and West African for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s in Biomembranes, studying across three world-class universities in France, Italy and Germany. As I look back, I see a young boy from Mushin, with a big dream: to explore the world and make a positive impact. And today, by God’s faithfulness, that dream is gradually becoming a reality. Truly, ‘with God, every dream is achievable, even those that seem impossible.’”

He also encouraged young people to see education as a transformative tool:

“To my younger self and every student out there: Trust God.
Hold your education tightly. Come out with the best grades possible, strive for excellence, because education is still one of the most powerful keys to move from your local community to the global stage.

Through this fellowship, he launched the Students Mental Health Advocates (SMA) initiative, which partnered with the University of Lagos Counseling Unit to organize mental health awareness programs. The project reflected his belief that academic success must be matched with psychological well-being, and it provided a safe space for students to confront issues such as depression, anxiety, and academic pressure.

Beyond mental health, Samuel co-founded the SkillUp Initiative, a youth empowerment project aimed at equipping young people, especially in communities like Mushin, with essential digital skills. In April 2025, Samuel was appointed Education Ambassador by the SEED Care & Support Foundation, a role that positioned him as a voice for affordable and accessible non-state education in Nigeria. Through this ambassadorship, he advocates for quality schooling that reaches underserved communities, reflecting his lifelong commitment to breaking cycles of educational disadvantage.

For more than six years, Samuel served as the Head of Bible Study at LP65 Junior Church, where he was responsible for teaching, guiding, and mentoring young people in scriptural understanding and moral discipline. He was also appointed Teens and Children President in his parish, a position that placed him at the forefront of organizing programs, retreats, and youth development activities.
