Entry into Nollywood
Mark’s foray into acting was inspired by the financial struggles and exploitation he faced as a model. He observed that many of his peers in modeling were making a successful transition to Nollywood. After enduring underpayment by modeling agents, he decided to pursue acting full-time.
He joined the Nollywood industry in 2004, briefly left for event management, and then returned in 2005 to fully embrace his acting career.
Modeling Career
Before acting, Mark modeled for major brands including:
- May & Baker
- Federal Road Safety Corps
- Cadbury Nigeria
Despite the exposure, he left the modeling industry due to unfair pay practices. Agents often took multiple commissions, leaving models with minimal earnings.
Height and Recognition
Mark Georgewill is widely recognized as the tallest actor in Nollywood, standing at 6 feet 7 inches. Initially, there was debate over whether actors like Hanks Anuku or Richard Mofe-Damijo held the title, but colleagues eventually agreed that Mark holds the record.
Notable Nollywood Roles
Mark made his Nollywood debut in the movie “Crying Angel”, playing the role of a man whose friend returns from the U.S. Since then, he has featured in several films, including:
- Sweet Mama
- Price of Fame
- Abuja Top Ladies
- Sting
- Secret Mission
- Hear My Cry
- Drug Empire
- Total Control
- World of Our Own
- Last Dance
- Weeping Tiger
He primarily secures roles through auditions and is occasionally invited directly by directors he has previously worked with.
Challenges in the Industry
Mark recalls a disappointing incident where a producer vanished after filming, leaving the cast unpaid. Such situations, where artists are exploited and denied fair compensation, have been a recurring challenge in his career.
Personal Philosophy & Industry Insight
He compares Nollywood to a “moving train” — one that may not have gathered full momentum yet but is destined to become unstoppable. He praises marketers for their investment in the industry and urges the Nigerian government and private sector to provide structured support.
Mark believes that with proper investment, Nollywood could generate up to $20–30 billion in the next decade.
Role Models
He looks up to seasoned actors like:
- Alex Usifo
- Olu Jacobs
- Charles Okafor
- Ngozi Ezeonu
- Ebere Okaro
He admires them for maintaining a scandal-free and professional career.
Views on Nudity in Film
Mark draws a clear line on nudity in acting. While he’s open to roles that involve partial nudity, such as wearing just pants, he would not consider complete nudity due to personal values and family expectations.
Relationship with Female Colleagues
He maintains a respectful and professional relationship with female actors in Nollywood. According to him, many of them trust him because he values loyalty and boundaries, treating them more like sisters than colleagues.
Message to Fans
“Keep watching my movies — the best is yet to come. I am still refining my craft and growing in my passion.”
Future Aspirations
Mark hopes to leave a lasting legacy in Nollywood. His ultimate goal is to be remembered as one of the best in the industry and to create a footprint that will inspire future generations of actors.
