Early Life and Education

A pivotal turn in his childhood came when his family relocated to Cotonou, Benin Republic, seeking better educational opportunities. This move deeply influenced his worldview. Immersed in a francophone culture different from his Igbo roots, Mmzy developed a multicultural perspective that would later shape his artistic expression. He often refers to Cotonou as his โsecond home.โ
He attended Laurel International School in Cotonou, excelling in the arts and cultivating his early interest in music. He graduated in 2011 with a distinction in the arts. Multilingual by nature, he became fluent in English and French, a skill that became instrumental in his cross-cultural music career.
Following secondary school, Mmzy returned to Nigeria and gained admission to the University of Lagos (UNILAG). There, he pursued higher education while nurturing his musical aspirations. During his studies, he briefly worked as a French teacher in Lagos, staying connected to his Beninese upbringing while earning a living.
Music Career

After completing university and leaving his teaching job, Mmzy committed fully to a music career. His talent and vision caught the attention of Kerae Records, an independent Nigerian label that signed him and helped shape his brand. The stage name โMmzyโ became a reinvention of his identity as an artist with international ambition.
His debut single “Miracle Lover” established his presence in the Nigerian music scene, with catchy lyrics and a relatable romantic theme. He followed up with “Wildin” and “Social Distance”, demonstrating both musical versatility and social awareness. In 2021, he released his debut extended play (EP) titled Ascent, featuring collaborations with artists like Teni and Starboy Terri.
