Charles Chukwuma Soludo, born on July 28, 1960, in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria, is a distinguished economist, academic, and politician. He has made significant contributions to Nigeria’s economic policies and governance.

Early Life and Education
Soludo was born into the family of Pa Simeon Soludo. His mother passed away during the Nigerian Civil War when he was nearly eight years old. He attended Uga Boys High School, where he served as senior prefect. He pursued higher education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), earning a First Class Honours degree in Economics in 1984. Furthermore, he continued at UNN, obtaining a Master’s degree in 1987 and a Ph.D. in 1989, graduating as the best student at all three levels.1
Academic and Professional Career
In 1998, Soludo was appointed as a professor of economics at UNN. He served as a visiting scholar at institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the University of Cambridge, the Brookings Institution, the University of Warwick, and the University of Oxford. He also worked as a consultant for international organizations, including the World Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the United Nations Development Programme. 1
Public Service and Political Career
Soludo joined the Nigerian government in 2003 as Chief Economic Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo and Chief Executive of the National Planning Commission. In May 2004, he was appointed Governor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), serving until 2009. During his tenure, he implemented significant banking reforms aimed at consolidating and strengthening the Nigerian banking sector. 1

Soludo has been married to Nonye Frances Soludo since December 1992, and they have six children. 1

In November 2022, Soludo publicly criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, and his predecessor as Governor of Anambra State, stating that Obi could not win the 2023 presidential election. This led to a public exchange between the two politicians and their supporters. 2
In September 2024, the National Working Committee of APGA threatened to suspend Soludo over alleged anti-party activities, highlighting internal conflicts within the party. 2
