Most Rev. Gregory Obinna Ochiagha served as the pioneer bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Orlu. Born on August 31, 1931, in Ibeme, Imo State, Nigeria. Ibeme is located in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State. Therefore, his state of origin is Imo State, and his local government area is Isiala Mbano. His journey in the priesthood began with his ordination on July 31, 1960. Known for his dedication and visionary leadership, he was consecrated as the first bishop of Orlu on January 6, 1981, marking the formal establishment of the diocese.
Bishop Ochiagha’s tenure was characterized by the establishment of numerous parishes, schools, and healthcare facilities within the diocese. He is remembered as a compassionate leader and a staunch advocate for education and spiritual growth. After years of faithful service, he retired but remains a revered figure in the diocese as Bishop Emeritus.
Both bishops have significantly contributed to the spiritual and structural development of the Diocese of Orlu, leaving indelible marks on the lives of the faithful.
