He had reportedly gone there for a personal matter, but the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remain unclear.
His sudden death sent shockwaves through Enugu and the broader southeastern region, sparking public outrage, mass protests, and condemnation from cultural organizations. Many demanded justice and accountability, calling attention to rising police brutality and systemic abuses of power.
In response to the public outcry, the police officer responsible was arrested and detained, and an official investigation was launched. The Governor of Enugu State issued a statement mourning the loss of the beloved artist and assuring the public that justice would be served.
Legacy
Though his life was cut short, Igbo Jah’s impact on traditional music and cultural preservation remains enduring.
