Growing up in the culturally rich environment of Enugu, he developed a passion for music and storytelling from a young age. He began his education at a local primary school before attending the College of the Immaculate Conception (CIC) in Enugu for his secondary education. At CIC, Tidinz actively participated in debates, drama productions, and talent shows, honing his lyrical skills and stage presence. He later pursued higher education at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), further grounding his academic and artistic pursuits.

Music Career

Richard Dilichukwu OkonkwoTidinz emerged as a dynamic and culturally assertive voice in Nigeriaโ€™s southeastern hip-hop scene. His music was characterized by fearless lyrical delivery, the unapologetic use of the Igbo language, and a defiant street persona that resonated with the youth of Enugu and beyond.

His professional music journey began in 2014 with the debut single โ€œPaa Cool,โ€ featuring Nigerian rapper Yung6ix. The track showcased his raw lyrical energy and introduced his unique blend of street rap, trap beats, and indigenous Igbo lyricism. In 2016, he gained significant traction with tracks like โ€œMpandia,โ€ a localized remix of Desiignerโ€™s global hit โ€œPanda,โ€ and โ€œAbiggie,โ€ featuring the legendary eastern rapper Phyno. These collaborations validated Tidinzโ€™s lyrical prowess and aligned him with established artists, boosting his reputation in Nigeriaโ€™s broader hip-hop community.

Tidinzโ€™s style matured into a fusion of hardcore rap, Afro-trap, and indigenous hip-hop, reflecting the tensions and energy of urban life in the East. Tracks like โ€œ48 Laws,โ€ โ€œIgbo,โ€ and โ€œIron Headโ€ gained popularity, particularly in the Southeast and among the Igbo diaspora. He often referred to himself as the โ€œKing of the East,โ€ with lyrics echoing themes of resilience, street credibility, loyalty, and self-made success.

In April 2019, Tidinz released his debut album titled 777. The number โ€œ777โ€ is symbolic in spiritual and numerological traditions, often representing divine perfection or spiritual awakeningโ€”a message reflecting Tidinzโ€™s belief in destiny and his role as a voice for his people. The album featured collaborations with respected acts like Zoro and Phyno, solidifying his position in the eastern Nigerian hip-hop renaissance.

In 2021, Tidinz released the Rebirth EP, marking a shift in his musical direction. The project was introspective and emotionally layered, evidencing an artist who had grown in technique and thought. The title โ€œRebirthโ€ suggested transformationโ€”a new phase of self-awareness and creative depth. Standout tracks included โ€œMama Ebele,โ€ โ€œThe Plug,โ€ and โ€œRise,โ€ the latter performed live on AKtivated TV, showcasing his expressive talent and vulnerability.
