In January 2024, Obiano was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on a nine-count charge of money laundering, diversion of funds, stealing, and corruption totaling ₦4 billion. The charges detailed unauthorized transfers and cash transactions, including converting state funds into foreign currency for personal use.
