Jim Lawson Maduike, born on December 25, 1958, was a veteran Nigerian actor, broadcaster, and voice-over artist. He hailed from Umunwolave, Guamo Obire in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State, but was born in the rural town of Godogodo, located in the Kafanchan area of Kaduna State. Rising from modest beginnings, he became one of Nigeriaโs most revered voices in radio broadcasting and later earned acclaim as a distinguished figure in Nollywood.

Jim Lawson began his career in 1980 with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), where he served for 14 years. He was later a pioneer staff member at Ray Power FM and subsequently worked with Minaj Broadcasting in Obosi. In total, he spent 21 years in radio broadcasting, earning a reputation as one of Nigeriaโs โgolden voices.โ
He was notably the first voice to go on air from FRCN Abuja, during Nigeriaโs Independence Day broadcast in 1990โan achievement he remained proud of throughout his life.

In 2004, Jim Lawson transitioned into the Nigerian movie industry. He debuted in the film Her Majesty and went on to appear in over 75 films, including:

Jim Lawson Maduike passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 9, 2021. According to the Actors Guild of Nigeria, he had recently attended the burial of his fatherโs wife in Imo State. After complaining of body pain, he visited a hospital where doctors recommended admission, but he insisted on returning home. Sadly, he went to bed that night and never woke up.
His passing was confirmed by AGN President Emeka Rollas and National Secretary Abubakar Yakubu, and it sent waves of mourning throughout the Nollywood community.
