Obiora Obiwon, born Obiora Nwokolobia-Agu on June 9, 1977, in Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State, Nigeria, is a renowned Nigerian gospel artist, musician, songwriter, and evangelist. His early exposure to music came from his father, Sir Humphrey Nwokolobia-Agu, a respected folk and classical music composer and arranger from Eastern Nigeria. At the age of five, Obiora began singing along to Hip-Hop and R&B records from his elder brotherโs audio cassettes, igniting his passion for music.
By the age of 15, Obiora was already writing songs and performing at local street clubs and hangouts, showcasing his early dedication to music. In 2001, he graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a degree in Agricultural Extension.

CAREER
After migrating to Lagos in 2002 for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Obiora initially became an employee of a bank in Lagos. At the same time, initial attempts at a professional recording career merged him and friends in a Hip-Hop group called Thorobreds. It was at this point that he adopted the moniker “Obiwon,” a name which a favorite uncle had fondly called him in his younger years, after a popular science fiction hero. The group was known for its distinct sound, mixing Nigerian and Western musical styles. They won the Best Rap Group award at the Hip-Hop World Awards in 2005, marking their recognition in the Nigerian music scene. Obiora initially found success in the secular music industry, with a blend of Hip-Hop and R&B influences. TRANSITION TO GOSPEL MUSIC
