Peter Ndubuisi Mbah
Peter Ndubuisi Mbah was born on March 17, 1972, in Enugu, Nigeria, to Chief Gilbert Ekete Mbah and Mrs. Mbah from Ashishi Owo in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. He began his education at Army Children’s School, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, and later attended Owode High School in Owode Egba, Ogun State.
Mbah pursued higher education in law, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of East London in 2000. He was called to the Nigerian Bar after attending the Nigerian Law School. Furthering his education, he earned a Master’s degree in Maritime and Commercial Law from Lagos State University in 2004. He also holds an MBA from IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Spain, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from Saรฏd Business School, University of Oxford. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the Chief Executive Programme at Lagos Business School. In recognition of his contributions, Godfrey Okoye University awarded him an honorary doctorate in Political Science in 2021.
Professional Career:
Mbah’s professional journey began with the establishment of Peter Mbah Investments Limited in 1992, focusing on oil and gas services. He later founded GILPEL Industries Ltd., an importer of general goods, and FOCUS International Schools in Lagos. In the oil and gas sector, he is the founder and CEO of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd., which developed significant infrastructure in the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
Political Career:
Mbah’s political career commenced with his appointment as Chief of Staff to Governor Chimaroke Nnamani in 2003. He subsequently served as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development in Enugu State. In 2023, he emerged as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate for Enugu State and won the election held on March 18, 2023. Despite legal challenges from opposition parties, the election result was upheld by the Supreme Court in December 2023.

NYSC Certificate Dispute:

Bribery Allegations:
In June 2023, the Alliance of Enugu State Professionals accused Mbah of offering โฆ48 million to 24 newly elected state legislators to secure political support. The group claimed the funds were intended to influence the lawmakers’ allegiance.
Wande Nexus Investment Controversy:
Mbah announced a $100 million water project in collaboration with Wande Nexus, purportedly an Austrian company. Investigations revealed that Wande Nexus lacked verifiable registration and presence in Austria, leading to allegations that the company might be fictitious and the investment claims misleading.
Associations with Notable Igbo Personalities:
Throughout his career, Mbah has worked alongside prominent Igbo figures, including former Enugu State Governors Chimaroke Nnamani and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. He has also been associated with political leaders like Ike Ekweremadu and Chijioke Edeoga, the latter being his main opponent in the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Philanthropy:
Mbah established the Peter Mbah Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at improving living standards in rural communities and promoting human capital development.
Awards and Recognitions:
- Named one of the ten most outstanding Commissioners in Nigeria by Newswatch magazine in 2005.
- Received an honorary doctorate in Political Science from Godfrey Okoye University in 2021.
