Throughout his school years, Deyemi balanced his interest in drama with his strong academic performance, developing both his intellectual and artistic sides.
For his tertiary education, he gained admission into the University of Lagos, where he studied Chemical Engineering. Despite being enrolled in a science-oriented discipline, Deyemi remained closely connected to the arts, participating in stage plays and campus productions. His desire to refine his craft later led him to the Del-York Creative Academy, where he obtained a professional certificate in Acting for Film. This additional training provided him with technical skills in screen performance, preparing him for Nollywood and international projects.
Career
ย Early Film Appearances and Short Films (2010 – 2012)

At the same time, Deyemi worked in the corporate world in sales and marketing roles, but his growing passion for film began to outweigh his interest in a traditional career path.

His career breakthrough came with his role in NdaniTVโs groundbreaking web series Gidi Up (2013), where he starred alongside other rising actors like OC Ukeje and Somkele Iyamah. Between 2013 and 2015, he continued to appear in independent Nollywood productions and short films. This era positioned him as a dependable supporting actor with a strong screen presence.

According to FilmOne Entertainmentโs box office records, Deyemi was ranked as the highest-grossing Nollywood actor in both 2020 and 2021, a rare feat in the industry. This recognition elevated his status from rising actor to one of Nollywoodโs leading men.
International Exposure and Streaming Platforms (2022 -2023)
The global expansion of Nollywood through platforms like Netflix further propelled Deyemiโs career. In 2022, he played one of the central roles in Netflixโs limited series Blood Sisters, produced by EbonyLife Studios. Controversy

1. On Nollywood Actor Pay and Industry Standards
One of the most notable controversies involving Deyemi came from his outspoken criticism of Nollywoodโs pay structure. In multiple interviews, he has insisted that Nigerian actors are significantly underpaid, sparking discussions across the industry about fair compensation and the sustainability of acting as a career.
In July 2024, he stated:
โI think Nollywood actors are not paid enough. In fact, I think they are criminally underpaid and undervalued.โ
This statement led to heated conversations among filmmakers, producers, and even fans. While many colleagues applauded his courage to speak up, others argued that actors should be cautious about making such declarations in public, fearing it might discourage investors.
2. Challenging Politicians and State Governments
In August 2024, Deyemi publicly called out the Kogi State Government, urging Governor Yahaya Bello to establish a film fund and creative hub to support Nollywood productions in the state. His statement was widely circulated on social media:
โItโs about time our leaders realize that Nollywood is one of the biggest exporters of Nigeriaโs culture. Kogi has untapped potential, but without investment in film funds and creative hubs, that potential will remain wasted.โ
While many saw this as a bold move, others criticized him for what they described as โunrealistic demandsโ on state governments. The controversy highlighted the often tense relationship between Nollywood practitioners and political leaders.
3. On EFCC and Entertainment Industry Scrutiny
Deyemi also drew attention in 2024 when he criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for focusing excessively on entertainers in their corruption crackdowns. His comments sparked debate about whether celebrities receive unfair scrutiny compared to politicians and corporate figures. He said:
โDonโt just arrest entertainers; tackle corruption in all sectors. Because something is cultural does not make it right.โ
This statement divided public opinion, with some praising him for defending the creative sector while others accused him of trying to shield entertainers from accountability.
4. Advice on Personal Life and Relationships
Another source of public controversy came from Deyemiโs candid advice to young people about relationships and financial stability. In a widely shared open letter, he advised men not to pursue relationships when financially unstable, emphasizing the importance of self-development first:
โFocus on building yourself. If youโre broke, you have no business being in a relationship. Donโt chase love when you canโt even afford to chase your dreams.โ
While many young fans agreed with his practical approach, some critics accused him of being โinsensitiveโ and reinforcing materialistic standards in relationships. The controversy trended on social media, showing how his personal views often spark wider societal debates.
5. Typecasting and Skit Maker Debate
Deyemi also faced discussions about typecasting in Nollywood and the struggles of actors without large social media followings. In his words:
โLack of followers hindered my growth. I was being typecast early on, and it slowed down my career.โ
This admission resonated with many but also stirred debates about whether Nollywood is now overly dependent on social media popularity rather than raw talent.
Personal Life

Despite being a celebrated Nollywood figure, Deyemi frequently emphasizes the importance of family stability over fame. In interviews, he has described his wife as his โbiggest supporter and closest confidant,โ often crediting her for providing the emotional balance he needs in an industry known for its pressures.
Known for his candid views on relationships, Deyemi often shares practical advice with young people about love and personal growth. He has argued that individuals should prioritize self-development and financial stability before entering long-term commitments. Reflecting on his own journey, he once said:
โFamily is everything to me. My greatest roles are not the ones I play on screen but the ones I play at home as a husband and father.โ
Away from acting, Deyemi is passionate about fitness, reading, and personal development, and he frequently engages in motivational talks, mentoring sessions, and public speaking engagements. His personal life, grounded in values of faith, discipline, and family, strongly complements his professional identity as one of Nollywoodโs most bankable and respected actors.
