Early Life and Education

Paschal Eze was born on March 17 in the early 1960s, in Isiekenesi, located in Ideato South Local Government Area, Imo State, southeastern Nigeria. He is the eldest of seven children and was raised in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State.

Eze began his higher education at Federal Polytechnic Nekede, where he studied Library Science from 1985 to 1987. He later pursued a degree in Government and Public Administration, graduating from Abia State University, Uturu, in 1992.

Career Journey

In 1996, Paschal Eze was ordained as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Between 1996 and 2001, he lived in The Gambia, where he served as a pastor, educator, and media professional. During this period, Eze held multiple influential positions in journalism and civil society:

  • Deputy Editor-in-Chief and later Acting Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Observer, a prominent Gambian newspaper.

  • Vice President of the Global Communication Research Association, headquartered at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.

  • Founder of the Gambia Media Network Against AIDS (MENAA), a coalition of journalists committed to combating the spread of HIV/AIDS.

In June 2001, following editorial censorship imposed by The Daily Observer’s management regarding political coverage, Eze and ten other editors resigned in protest. Describing the mass resignation as a stand for journalistic integrity, Eze remarked:

โ€œOur credibility was at stake, and we want the world to know that we cannot compromise on the ethics of our profession.โ€

Later that year, Eze became Editor-in-Chief of The Entrepreneur Magazine, published by the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In May 2002, he also chaired the Miss Gambia 2002 Beauty Pageant.

In 2003, Eze was re-ordained as a minister, reaffirming his dedication to faith-based work. After moving to London, he published his second book, Playing Casino with God. Shortly after, he relocated to Coralville, Iowa, USA, where he opened a Christian bookshop and founded the Christian Book Fair International (2004โ€“2006).
